Apple Cider Vinegar Hacks – Uses You Never Thought Of!

Hacks for using apple cider vinegar!

Apple cider vinegar has been used for centuries to in cooking and various other home purposes. In recent years it’s become popular because of various health benefits. Let’s talk about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and how you can start using it at home.

What Exactly Is Apple Cider Vinegar?

This is a vinegar made from apple cider. It has a pale amber color, a strong vinegar taste with just a hint of apple. In grocery stores today you can get filtered, pasteurized apple cider vinegar, as well as raw, organic vinegar that contains mother of vinegar and helpful probiotics. Mother of vinegar is a living culture of bacteria and cellulose. You will notice it as a spider web like substance floating in raw apple cider vinegar. While it may not look very appetizing, it’s this floating “stuff” that makes ACV so beneficial for your health, along with the added minerals and of course the acid in the vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar Hacks–

Make a Salad Dressing

ACV can be used like any other vinegar. You can mix up a quick salad dressing by combining the vinegar with oil, a little mustard, salt, pepper, and your favorite fresh or dried herbs.

Use in Recipes

Use it in any recipe that calls for vinegar. Incorporating raw vinegar, particularly in salads, other dishes, and things like green smoothies that aren’t cooked is a great way to add more of this beneficial vinegar into your diet.

Health Benefits

You can also drink it as a health elixir daily. If you want to keep it simple, pour a little shot of it, drink it and wash it down with a bit of water. Some people find it easier to take a shot of ACV daily by diluting it half and half with water.

Soften Hair

Use apple cider vinegar to clean your hair as a replacement for shampoo.  Seriously, use apple cider vinegar as a rinse in your hair and it will make your hair soft, shiny, and even helps it grow faster!

Repel Fleas and Ticks

Apple Cider Vinegar repels fleas and ticks….it’s perfect as an all natural flea collar for your pets.  Simply spritz pets down with a mixture of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar before sending them outside and the fleas will stay away.  Add a few drops of lavender essential oil for a pleasant and calming scent.

Whiten Your Teeth

Use apple cider vinegar as a teeth whitener.  Combine 2 parts apple cider vinegar with 1 part baking soda to create a paste.  Gently brush teeth 2-3 times per week with the mixture to combat stains.  ACV is acidic so you have to be cautious about it wearing down your tooth enamel.  Make sure that you immediately brush your teeth afterwards to remove all of the ACV and rinse well.

Make a Detox

Dr. Axe has a Secret Body Detox Drink that uses apple cider vinegar to help remove toxins from the body.  Many people will also drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every morning because of the detox benefits.

Relieve a Sunburn

Apple cider vinegar can also help relieve a sunburn.  As I shared with you in my post about How to Soothe a Sunburn — one tip is to gently rub apple cider vinegar on the burn to release the heat build up.

Get Rid of Lice

Use apple cider vinegar with coconut oil to get rid of lice.  Simply pour apple cider vinegar in the affected hair and let it dry.  The acidic properties of the ACV will break down the exoskeleton of the lice eggs, then cover the hair- root to tip- with coconut oil.  The coconut oil with smother the live lice.  Finally comb out the lice and eggs….repeat as needed every few days until you no longer find any nits.

Give Yourself a Pedicure

Apple cider vinegar is the perfect addition to a foot bath.  Not only does it soften feet- it also kills off any fungus that may be growing and will help whiten your nails.

Natural cleaner for fruits and vegetables.

As I shared the other day- apple cider vinegar can help your fruits and vegetables last longer by killing off any bacteria that makes them spoil faster.  Find more storage hacks on making food last longer here.

Yep, according to this article, apple cider vinegar can be used to make a wrap that will help you get rid of your cellulite!  Simply combine 1 part ACV with 2 parts water, add in honey, and apply to your cellulite area, wrap tightly with plastic wrap, place  warm towel on top and let it sit for an hour.  Rinse with warm water and repeat daily until you get the desired results.

Those pesky little bits of extra skin can easily be removed using a cotton ball, apple cider vinegar, and a band-aid! Just soak the cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and secure over the skin tag with a band aid for the night.  In the morning remove and wash clean.  The skin tag should dry up and fall off within a week.
