Finger Painting Party

A Fun Play Date for Your Preschooler

So this week Little Man started back to school…it’s his third and final year of preschool!  This boy needs to slow down a little on his growing up!!!  Seriously though, he’s LOVING being back at school and wakes up every morning eager to go and learn.  Unfortunately, his little sister isn’t so excited to see her “Bubby” leave for school in the morning.

In fact, she’s had a meltdown every morning so far because she wants to go with him!  So, I decided to plan a little “Back to School” party for her.

Often times we’re so focused on the older child adjusting and being away from us that we forget the younger siblings are adjusting as well.  They don’t understand WHERE their older sibling is going or WHY they are going or IF they are coming back.  So to ease the transition for Miss Jellybean I’ve planned lots of play dates during Little Man’s preschool time.

This week I invited over all of my friends with kids Miss Jellybean’s age and we had a finger painting party! It was a total blast and the kids loved it!  I mean, who doesn’t love painting with their fingers….especially when the paint is made of pudding!

Yep, you read that right….we did finger painting with pudding!  Genius…..right?!  You just get those ready made packs of pudding, add a few drops of food coloring, and mix well.

I can’t take the credit for the pudding finger painting….Little Man’s teachers did it his first year of preschool and I borrowed the idea from them. 😉

Anyway, when the kids arrived I had everything set up and ready to go in the dining room.  I grabbed a large plastic table cloth out of our party goodies stash to cover the table…you can typically find these for $1.

Then each place setting had a fun little goody tin with a paintbrush and a travel pack of WaterWipes and construction paper for painting.  The paintbrushes were for anyone who didn’t want to use their fingers….but once they discovered how fun it was all the kids dove right in!

The moms were actually able to relax while the kids were painting because we didn’t have to constantly watch over them to make sure they weren’t eating the “paint” or sucking on the cleaning cloths….everything I set up was safe and natural!

Using WaterWipes made clean up a breeze for those messy hands and faces….once the kids realized the “paint” was a delicious treat they decided to “paint” their faces. 😉  Luckily WaterWipes is 99.9% pure Irish water and .1% grapefruit seed extract so we had no worries when cleaning off those messy faces and mouths!

The finger painting party play date was a total success and I’ll definitely be planning another one soon.  I love that the moms got to actually talk and share parenting advice since we weren’t having to guard our little ones so closely.  I will warn you– the food coloring does stain little fingers but it was all gone after a good scrubbing in the bath.  Make sure the kids are wearing old clothes that can get messy.

This looks like it was so much fun! I would even love to do this without having kids.

That is such a great idea to keep little ones busy. When my kids were toddlers they could hardly wait to paint with pudding!
