  • 1.5 lbs ground turkey
  • 12oz Bag of frozen peas and carrots or mixed vegetables
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup chicken or turkey broth
  • 1.5 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the mashed potato topping. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until they're tender, around 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Mash the potatoes, then add the milk and butter. Season with salt and pepper, then continue mashing until smooth. Set aside for later.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until onions are translucent - about 5 minutes
  5. Add the ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until the turkey is no longer pink - about 7-8 minutes.

Did you know that a "shepherd's" pie that contains ground beef is actually called "Cottage Pie" in the British Isles? True Shepherd's Pie MUST contain that which a shepherd shepherds: lamb. Most Americans use the term "Shepherd's Pie" incorrectly.

I have enjoyed perusing your site, especially the posts on how to start a blog. I just started blogging (two posts thus far!) but have to fit it in between cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the farm. I'm so far behind the blogging curve that I didn't know (until I read your site) that someone could make money at it.

Thank you for your posts. I have enjoyed reading them!
