Can you believe Spring is almost here?! It has been one ROUGH Winter….I don’t think I’ve ever seen as much snow as we have gotten this year…it’s been CRAZY! But the weather is finally turning and we’re starting to get some Spring warmth….although it is still February so we have a few more cold snaps to muster through.
Anyway, let’s forget those cold snaps for a minute and think about Spring! Every year I have these loftly ambitions of growing vegetables and herbs but every year I’m left picking out my produce at the local farmer’s market or grocery store…..yeah, I’ve got a pretty BLACK thumb! Part of the problem is that I’ve had no where to grow….living in an apartment isn’t exactly condusive to growing vegetables….but now that we’re in the house I’ve got even more loftly aspirations! And that’s where Gro-ables comes in!
Miracle Gro has come out with a new product called Gro-ables and I’m SUPER excited to give Gro-ables a try! Basically they are pre-packaged seed pods that are guaranteed to grow when used as directed…they’re for newbie gardeners and black thumbs…like me! Oh and they are designed to easily grow your own herbs and veggies in your home or apartment…..they take the guess work out of gardening so the process is no longer overwhelming or confusing!
Every year I try to grow tomatoes but this year I know I’m going to be successful. I’m also excited about growing some peppers and herbs because I have my heart set on making some Homegrown Chunky Salsa this Spring….mmmmmm…..it’s so delicious!
I’m a HUGE salsa addict! When I was pregnant with Little Man we had salsa and chips at least 3-4 days a week….and now Little Man loves salsa just as much as I do. I’ve been wanting to grow my own ingredients for this Homegrown Chunky Salsa so I can easily make it anytime the craving strikes….in fact, I’m starting to crave it a little right now! 😉
Homegrown Chunky Salsa Recipe:
2 cups diced tomatos
4 cloves garlic
1 sweet red pepper diced
1 sweet onion diced
1 TBS olive oil
1 lime juiced
1 jalapeno minced
1/4 cup fresh cilantro diced
Make sure you check out Gro-ables this season…they’re very affordable at just $1.29-$1.49 per pod.
What herbs & veggies do you want to grow this Spring?
