Chai Spiced Scones
Hi y’all! Sarani here, and I am so excited to begin this new journey on the creative team of Serendipity and Spice. I love cooking from scratch and most of my recipes are my 7 yo old approved. Baking and whipping up quick and easy recipes which pack a flavorful punch are the things that I love most.
Chai Spiced Scones. Warm. Aromatic. Perfect with my cup of steaming hot tea. Fall is officially here and we are going to make the most of it before it starts getting really cold and we are mostly stuck inside. Just when the temperatures are starting to dip, all I want to do is sit on our porch and reminisce about the happy care-free summer evenings and munch on something warm with a hint of spice. These Chai Spiced Scones are the perfect to go with my steaming hot cup of Chai (tea).
Chai Spiced Scones
I prefer making my own Chai Spice Mix but it can be easily sourced from a local Indian grocery store or from Amazon.

Butter – 5 tbsp. cold and cut into small cubes

Chai Spiced Scones
Time to make the dough. Chai Spiced Scones, here we come!
Preheat oven to 400 F when you are ready to bake. In addition, grease a cookie sheet and set aside.
First of all, whisk together the flour, 4 tbsp cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, chai spice mix and salt in a bowl. Cut in the cold butter until mixture turns crumbly. Try to use a fork, or you can give it a couple of churns in your food processor. Do not use your hands as the heat will melt the butter. You would want your butter to melt in the oven and not before that. Now make a well in the middle of the flour mix and pour in the cold buttermilk and vanilla extract. Mix just until combined.
I like to use a cutting board to knead the flour-buttermilk mixture. I dust my cutting board with flour before I plop the crumbly dough onto the floured surface. Knead it a few times till the dough comes together just a little and using the palm of your hands, pat it into roughly a 8 inch circle. Cut the circle in 8 equal sized wedges.
Chill the scones before baking.
Finally, arrange the wedges on the greased cookie sheet in a circle just because it looks so cute. Lastly, I brush them lightly with milk and sprinkle the 1 tsp sugar mixed with a fat pinch of the chai spice mix. Stick it in the freezer to chill for about 20 minutes.
We are just minutes away from devouring delicious Chai Spiced Scones.
While the dough to make the Chai Spiced Scones is chilling, preheat the oven to 400 F. Now it is time for baking the scones to golden perfection. It will take about 16 to 18 minutes for the scones to bake through. Once done, transfer the scones to a cooling rack to cool it down a little before serving.
I love eating my Chai Spiced Scones warm with a pat of butter.
