So Little Man is absolutely NUTS about Olaf from Frozen! He’s so crazy about Olaf that we’re doing a whole Frozen themed birthday later this month and Olaf is the complete inspiration. I must admit….I’m a pretty big fan of Olaf as well….I mean what mother can say no to a cuddley little snowman who “likes warm hugs”….bring on the warm hugs little snowman!! Bring them on!!

Anyway, since Little Man is so crazy about Olaf I decided to surprise him with his very own Olaf throw blanket to take on out trip to Disney. Yep, we’re going to Disney today….follow me tonight on Instagram and Twitter using the #MNSSHP because we’ll be at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!!! We’re super excited….and you’re going to LOVE my costume…and Little Man’s too but mine is pretty awesome! 😉

Back to the Olaf blanket… I wanted to have some fun treats to give him to make our trip even more magical without spending a bunch of money on souvenirs. I saw this Olaf fleece in the fabric section at Walmart and just knew it would be perfect for Little Man!

Unfortunately the sewing machine is still packed up and there’s not really a good place to set it up in the “craft/storage room” so I needed to do a no sew blanket. Luckily, a no sew blanket was so much easier than I anticipated and now I’m considering making more for Christmas gifts! The instructions I’m sharing with you is for a toddler size throw but if you want a full size throw just double the amount of fabric.

So, ready for how to make this super simple no sew Olaf throw for less than $10?!

The key to keeping it inexpensive is only using the licensed print fleece on one side of the throw and choosing a complementing color fleece for the other side. As you can see the Olaf print was more than double the price of the solid white.

I bought one yard of each…but you can decide how big you want your throw to be…I just wouldn’t go smaller than this…even for a baby…you want them to be able to grow and still use it.

Start off by trimming the unfinished edges…sometimes they have copyright info on one end that you don’t want/need for your blanket. And sometimes the other end is just a little rough because the fleece doesn’t go all the way to the end.

Next you’ll want to spread the fleece material out on a flat surface. I just spread out on the floor in front of the TV during naptime. The last thing you want is your toddler trying to “help” and getting your two pieces of fleece off center! 🙂 Line up both pieces of fleece together with the fuzzy/nice side facing out.

Then just trim the larger fleece so that both pieces are the same size.

Next, you’ll want to go around the fleece making 2-3″ cuts into both pieces of fleece about an inch apart. This does not need to be perfectly measured…I just guesstimated! BUT you DO want to do BOTH pieces of fleece at the same time so the cuts line up correctly….so make sure you’re using good scissors!

Without separating the two pieces of fleece start tying the cut pieces together. I just did a simple double knot.

Your blanket will start to bunch up a little….this is okay….just lightly tug and it will sound bad (kinda like it’s ripping) but it’ll stretch it out a little…don’t worry…it will look great in the end….I was a bit worried too but it turned out super cute….you just have to get all the way around the blanket.

The corners were probably the hardest because they bunched up the most. Just power through it and keep knotting the right cuts together and you’ll get there!

Once you’re finished knotting just give a gentle tug all the way around the blanket to finish flattening it out a little.

It takes about an hour but you’ll have a beautiful new throw blanket for your little one that they’re sure to LOVE!

Little Man takes his blanket everywhere! And I love that it only cost me $10 and an hour of my time to make!
