Here are some of the top benefits of eating pineapple.
Pineapples are Packed With Nutrition
When you eat pineapple, you don’t just get a delicious snack, but one that is jajam-packedith vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Some of the top vitamins that are in pineapple include vitamin A, C, calcium, and B-6. These vitamins help you build strong bones, boost your immune system, help fight against infections, and provide antioxidant qualities. It also has many other nutrients, including potassium, manganese, magnesium, folate, thiamine, and riboflavin.
Pineapple Protects Against Age-Related Diseases
Regardless of your genetics, you are at risk for certain diseases as you get older. There are some illnesses that are much more common for older adults, and require proper nutrition to prevent them. Antioxidants are one of the best things you can get through your diet for avoiding these illnesses, which you can get from pineapple. Some age-related illnesses you may be able to avoid are skin conditions, macular degeneration, and lower the risk of early onset dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Pineapple Can Help with Asthma
This is especially important for children, but adults also experience asthmatic episodes. If you don’t get proper nutrition from a young age, you are at a higher risk for developing all sorts of illnesses. Fruits and vegetables with beta carotene are the ones best for asthma. Not only does this include pineapple, but also apricots, carrots, cantaloupe, pumpkin, papaya, and broccoli.
My brother would suffer from the worst asthma attacks that would land him in the hospital for days. During this time he would take multiple breathing treatments and complain that they made his drinks taste funny. But, pineapple juice always tasted good to him…maybe it was his body’s natural instincts looking for the health benefits found in pineapple. Who knows?!
Pineapple can Lower Blood pressure
If you have high blood pressure or you are at risk of getting it, it can be very dangerous. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is known as the silent killer. This is due to not having many symptoms, but the fact that it can lead to heart disease and other cardiovascular issues. Pineapple is an excellent source of potassium, which can naturally lower your blood pressure.
Your Skin Has a Nice Glow
Antioxidants and vitamin C are both important in your diet if you want to have beautiful, healthy, glowing skin. Pineapple has both of these. The antioxidants can help you reduce acne, provide important nutrients to your skin, and can help avoid skin damage. Vitamin C has an added benefit for skin because it helps to form collagen, which firms up your skin.
It Can Help With Fertility
If you are trying to get pregnant or will be in the near future, pineapple may help. There are multiple nutrients in pineapple that help with female and male fertility, including zinc, folate, copper, vitamin C, and beta carotene. Why not give it a try?!
Pineapple Can Keep Gums Healthy
Oral health is extremely important and not something to take for granted. Not only should you brush and floss your teeth regularly, but you should also increase your vitamin C content with fruits like pineapple. Just a cup of pineapple a day can improve your gum health considerably.
Pineapple May Increase Breastmilk Supply
With all of the nutritional benefits of pineapples, it’s no wonder that many moms tout it’s praises for increasing their breastmilk supply. As I shared with you in How to Increase Breast Milk Supply, when I was at the hospital right after Little Miss was born, the nurses offered pineapple juice…which was not only refreshing but I was able to produce more milk this time around than I was able to with Little Man. Was it the pineapple juice? Who knows….but it didn’t hurt to give it a go!
